Real Man of Genius

You know that long running Bud Light campaign. Sure you do!

“This one’s for you, Mr. Really Really Really Bad Dancer,” or “We salute you, Mr. All You Can Eat Buffet Inventor.”

There’s a new one ready to be Story-Boarded:  “Mr. Hands-On Human Relations Genius Mayor Who Fires His Police Chief in The Trentonian.”

Today’s news out of River City: Acting Police Director Ernie Williams found out that he will not be Mayor Mack’s nominee as permanent Police Director. But Director Williams did not hear the news from the Mayor. “I had to find out about this by reading The Trentonian website,” he said. He reacted to the news by telling the Trentonian’s reporter he was packing his desk and walking out.

Mr. Williams took the job knowing that he was likely a temporary hire for the position, as he told the same newspaper on July 2. But there is something especially graceless to dismiss one’s own head of Police like this.  He is not a happy man today:  “”This guy turned his back on me, didn’t even have the guts to tell me to my face…I did Mack a favor by taking this job. He begged me to come and this is how he repaid me. He’s classless. This is nothing but betrayal.”

Over the last six and one-half months, Mayor Mack has succeeded in one main area: he continues to alienate and anger those who were his supporters and friends, including many of those who wished him all the best in his new job at a tough time for the city, and who were ready to help out any way they could.

Mr. Williams joined that club today.  He answered Mr. Mack’s call to service, for as long as the Mayor needed him. This is the reward.

Classy.

The more I think of it, I think the Bud Light campaign approach can be a really fruitful one when discussing the Mayor. Today, for instance, he can be honored for being both “Mr. Hands-On Human Relations Genius Mayor Who Fires His Police Chief in The Trentonian” AND “Mr. Take Care of Your Campaign Contributors with a Sweetheart Property Deal.”

Who will he be tomorrow?
